Note : Performance Report 2013
CPF is cognizant of the significant value of natural resources and environment which are basic elements of agro-industrial and foods businesses. CPF operates under the ‘Green Business’ concept to reduce environmental footprints and protect biodiversity.
Protecting Biodiversity
Mangrove forest connects land and marine ecosystems. It protects sea shore from erosion and being damaged by storm, and it serves as refuge and nursery to small and juvenile marine. It is also a rich source of food as well as filtering sea water. These make mangrove forest extremely important to ecosystem because it promotes biodiversity and maintains natural balance. Therefore, CPF strongly commits to mangrove afforestation and preservation. Since 1993, CPF has worked relentlessly with a wide range of stakeholders including government agencies, academic institutions and local communities to plant and maintain over 320 hectares of mangrove forests in 17 provinces in the southern, central and eastern regions of Thailand.
Reducing Environmental Footprints
Wastewater Biogas Capture and Utilization Project
Wastewater is utilized through the closed anaerobic system of wastewater treatment. The methane gas generated from the system is used as an alternative energy to fuel oils and LPG at steam boilers at our food processing plants.
Green Farm
Our environmentally friendly swine farms have turned into a comprehensive waste and pollution management project. The evaporative cooling system and lavatories installed in the closed barn help to eliminate foul odors to the minimum. Wastewater from the farm is directed to plastic-covered ponds for water treatment. This prevents foul odors from disturbing the communities surrounding the facilities, generates biogas and reduces water usage as treated wastewater is used to water trees in the farms and fruit farms nearby, and the electricity generated from biogas replaced 31% of purchased electricity which reduces the electricity expenses around THB 93 million per year.
